Taylor Swift addressed her feud with Kanye West for the first time in years, prompting the singer’s strong fan base to come after Ye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian, for supporting him in his alleged mistreatment of Taylor and failing to issue an apology.
Taylor’s feud with Kanye originally began in 2009 when he interrupted her VMA acceptance speech, only to insist Beyonce should’ve won the award.
The duo feuded publicly for years afterwards, with Taylor denying she gave permission to Kanye to name drop her in a 2016 song, only for his then-wife Kim Kardashian to release audio of a phone call where Taylor gave Ye the go-ahead.
During an interview with TIME Magazine released this month, Taylor addressed the incident for one of the first times in a decade, admitting she was once worried it would end her career.
The singer described the public’s reaction to the drama as “a career death” and admits it “took [her] down psychologically to a place [she’d] never been before.”
“Make no mistake — my career was taken away from me,” Taylor explained. “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.”
“That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before,” Taylor went on. “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
Kim hasn’t directly responded to Taylor’s claims that she edited the audio clip, but Swifties haven’t been shy to call her out online.
During a post to her Instagram page, where she has 364 million followers, Kim promoted her billion-dollars SKIMS fans. But rather than rave about her new products, many fans commented on Kim, Kanye, and Taylor’s feud, with some calling for the reality tar to finally apologize to Swift.
"Kim what you did to Tay affected her mental health. Your words and actions have consequences for others. Make this right and you will get more respect,” one person wrote, Geo TV reports.
“This is a valuable learning moment for all women to not protect your man at all costs -give your man honest feedback when he is not acting right!” another comment added. “That's all- and learning from mistakes.”
Kim is currently following in her father Robert Kardashian’s footsteps by becoming a lawyer, but some commenters called her out for the career change, considering how she previously leaked Taylor’s phone call with Kanye in 2016.
“For someone who's Dad was a lawyer and your (sic) trying to become a lawyer, you'd think that maybe you'd make sure you weren't committing a crime by recording the phone call??” the person wrote. “Real women empower other women. Not try to destroy them and their career! You have daughters!!!”
For now, Kim hasn’t directly commented on the new controversy following her renewed feud with Taylor.
